INTERNATIONAL AUTISM MOM DAY

Autism moms show up every day, on April 19 the world shows up for them.

WHY THIS DAY EXISTS:
International Autism Mom Day exists because so many autism moms spend their lives making sure everyone else is seen, supported, understood, and cared for—while their own needs can quietly disappear into the background.
Behind the appointments, evaluations, therapies, school meetings, phone calls, advocacy, paperwork, research, sleepless nights, and everyday responsibilities is a mother who is carrying an enormous amount of emotional and mental weight.
-
She is often the one learning the systems.
-
The one asking the questions.
-
The one fighting for services.
-
The one explaining her child to the world.
-
The one celebrating milestones others may never understand.
-
The one worrying about what happens tomorrow, next year, and someday when she is no longer there to advocate.
And through all of it, she is still expected to work, maintain relationships, care for her family, manage a household, and somehow take care of herself too.
Too often, the conversation stops at what the child needs.
But what about Mom?
Who checks on the woman who is constantly checking on everyone else?
Who asks how she is doing after the appointment?
Who supports her mental health when advocacy becomes exhausting?
Who recognizes the career opportunities she may have sacrificed, the financial pressures she may carry, or the parts of herself she may have put on hold?
International Autism Mom Day was created to make sure those questions are asked.
This day is not about separating mothers from their autistic children or suggesting that motherhood is defined by hardship.
It is about recognizing the whole woman behind the role of caregiver.
-
Her strength.
-
Her identity.
-
Her dreams.
-
Her mental health.
-
Her sacrifices.
-
Her accomplishments.
-
Her need for community.
And her right to be supported too.

Autism moms show up every day, on April 19 the world shows up for them.

Our Mission
The mission of International Autism Mom Day is to ensure that no autism mom feels unseen, unsupported, or forgotten.
We exist to recognize the women behind the advocacy—the mothers who spend every day fighting for services, navigating systems, managing responsibilities, celebrating victories, carrying fears, and showing up for their children again and again.
Our mission is to create a global movement centered on recognition, mental health, financial wellness, community, connection, and advocacy for autism moms around the world.
Through International Autism Mom Day, we aim to bring families, communities, businesses, healthcare professionals, educators, policymakers, and allies together to create meaningful support that extends far beyond one day.
Supporting them is the mission.
Because when we strengthen the mother, we strengthen the family.

WHY EVERYONE SHOULD CARE:
You may not be an autism mom.
You may not have an autistic child.
You may even believe autism has nothing to do with your life.
But chances are, it already does—or one day it will.
Autism is becoming increasingly visible in our communities.
In 2000, CDC surveillance identified autism in approximately 1 in 150 8-year-old children in participating U.S. communities.
By 2022, that number was approximately 1 in 31.
Globally, the World Health Organization estimates that approximately 1 in 127 people is autistic. Autism exists across countries, cultures, racial and ethnic groups, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
That means autism is not somebody else's issue.
The autistic child in school today will become the autistic adult in our colleges, workplaces, healthcare systems, neighborhoods, businesses, and communities tomorrow.
You may encounter an autistic person as your classmate.
Your coworker.
Your employee.
Your customer.
Your patient.
Your neighbor.
Your friend.
Or someone you love.
And behind many of those individuals is a mother or caregiver who has spent years advocating, researching, attending appointments, navigating services, fighting for inclusion, worrying about the future, and doing everything possible to help someone they love thrive.
That is why everyone should care.
International Autism Mom Day is not asking the world to understand every detail of autism.
It is asking people to care about other people.
To become more compassionate.
More inclusive.
More willing to listen.
More willing to support the mothers and families living this journey every day.
Because when an autism mom has support, she is better positioned to support her family.

THIS IS A GLOBAL MOVEMENT:
International Autism Mom Day is more than a day of recognition.
It is a global movement.
Autism does not belong to one country, one culture, one race, or one community. Mothers around the world are navigating many of the same emotions—love, fear, advocacy, exhaustion, hope, uncertainty, and the determination to create a better future for their children.
Their circumstances may look different.
Their healthcare systems may be different.
Their schools may be different.
Their resources may be different.
Their languages and cultures may be different.
But the need to feel seen, supported, respected, and connected is universal.
International Autism Mom Day was created to bring those mothers together and to remind the world that autism motherhood is not an isolated experience.
It is happening in cities, villages, suburbs, schools, hospitals, workplaces, and homes across the globe.
